I'm Back

The month of July was busy...after our 2 Independence Day celebrations, we prepared for #2's Fourth Birthday. On her actual birthday, we went to a friend's house for a play date, then had a quiet family celebration. When I grew up, my siblings and I were able to choose our birthday dinner so I thought that would be a fun tradition to continue with my kids. #2 chose "sticky rice" which means Thai or Chinese rice. So we feasted on an awesome Thai dinner of Kanom jeeb, Kee moa goong gai, Bangkok beef, and Pad woon sen. The following weekend, we had a princess party with family and preschool friends. The snake swords, heart/star wands, crowns, and fairy tale finger puppets were a hit.

The day of the party, my HP book arrived...brought to me by one of my dearest friends who knew how much it meant to me. Once I had it in my hands, I was not able to put it down (I was not reading it, just holding it) for close to an hour. While I wanted to devour the entire thing in one day, I decided to try to take my time and fully enjoy it as it would be the last one. I was able to make it last for a week. It was just as captivating, if not more, than the previous books and as I read the final pages (I promise there is nothing here that will ruin it for those of you who have not yet read it) I felt completely satisfied and content. Never before have I been so taken by a series of books. Sure, I got into Anne Rice's Vampire Chronicles, John Grisham's lawyer dramas, and just about everything by Kurt Vonnegut and Tom Robbins, but not with the ferocity that I fell for J K Rowling's incredible tale. She is truly a talented woman. I hope and pray that many more stories "fall" into her head for us to enjoy.

Now that the book is done, I must attempt to crochet a baby blanket in 5 short days when I will be attending a middle school (that was 22 years ago) friend's baby shower. Hopefully I will remember to take a pic of it before giving it away. I keep meaning to start a portfolio of all the blankets, purses, hats, and misc items I knit/crochet as gifts, but since I am usually rushing to finish the item moments before the designated occasion, I have yet to be that organized.

On Saturday, we went to a party where the boys spent most of the afternoon dining on crabs while the girls played in the dirt (#2's white dress was brown). When he wasn't eating, #1 could be found playing by the fire pit. The evening was capped off with a terrific fireworks display. It was the perfect fun filled day spent with friends and family.

The Local Fair

Kirkiez took #1 & #2 to the local fair. They had a blast and came home with several layers of fairground scum. #3 was supposed to join them, but crashed out on the couch after falling off her booster seat and bumping the back of her head during dinner. She woke up right after they returned just in time to say goodbye to Grandpa K and had no idea she missed out on anything (which would have caused an all out two year old temper tantrum complete with flying objects and more bumps to the head).

Happy Indep Day - Part II

We spent the weekend down at the "rivah" for our second 4th of July celebration this week. Nana and Grandpa John's town has a whole host of festivities lined up for families of all ages in which we have been a part of for 3 years now. Our favorite activities are the neighborhood picnic, parade, and fireworks. The highlight of the parade for the kids is that the various participants throw candy at them. #3 loved the fireworks so much that after the finale ended, she looked up at me with the sweetest face and said, "More please." I may have many tricks of my sleeve, but making fireworks appear out of thin air (as it seems to happen in the eyes of my children) is not one of them. I think #1 would say his favorite part of the weekend, was fishing with daddy and trapping 6 crabs that Nana so kindly steamed for him so perfectly that he ate up every last bit.

#1 found this adorable praying mantis while I was loading up the car and waiting for Kirkiez to arrive home from work so we could leave for the rivah

The two fisherman and their little catch that was quickly returned to its home

Nana and her wonderful friend who has ever so kindly allowed us to enjoy the parade and fireworks from her yard over the last 3 years

#3 spent the entire parade in this spot amazed at the floats, fire engines, and of course, the mountain of candy we collected from the sidewalk

Me, #1 and #2 at the parade...it couldn't have been a better weekend...an absolutely fabulous time...can't wait for next year!!!

Happy Indep Day!

We had a fun 4th of July with friends and family despite the rainy weather. The food was delish, the fireworks were a blast and the day couldn't have been more perfect. Thanks to all of you who joined us and made it such a special day!

Loving Summer and Our Own Schedule

Just before taking #1 to soccer camp. He LOVED it so we signed him up for the county youth league in the fall.

Look Ma, no knees! My first tooth broke thru the other day and I can scoot! Now I am practicing for the big leagues. I'll have crawling licked in no time.

The kids set this up themselves and #1 put in the movie now that he knows how to operate the tv and dvd player on his own.
